Welcome LDS Homeschoolers
Hello! I'm so glad you came to my mom blog today. I'm not much a of blogger so I hope you will have patience with me. I'd like to start by introducing myself.
My name is Maddie. I am a mother of 4 (soon to be 5). I have three boys (ages 9, 3, and 1) and a girl (2 years old). I am due with my fifth and final in December 2017. My oldest is only in my home every other week and attends public school. He read at who knows what level and is very smart. He attends a great (for public) school. Some of the issues I have found with public school have really left me deciding that home school is the only right way for my children. My oldest is very smart, he reads very advanced but the school won't test him beyond a specific grade level so we aren't even aware of what level he is actually at. He's very intelligent and is friends with all the "gifted and talented" kids. A friend's mother was actually very surprised to find out my son isn't in the GT program. He didn't test well enough to get into the program but is at the same level at the others in the group. It has been a very frustrating thing for me. He is so advanced and I saw this same thing happen with my brother in his youth. He got bored. He ended up dropping out of high school due to a lack of interested. I don't want this for my child but unfortunately with split decision making and split custody there is no way that I can home school him. I decided that I want the rest of my kids to be able to go at the pace they need whether that is slower or faster and be able to focus on their individual talents and advance them as quickly or slowly as needed. I love being able to incorporate our beliefs into our lessons and use my time with them to help them learn to make the right decisions and follow the Light of Christ.
I intend to keep this blog throughout all my years of homeschooling. I'd like to keep it completely free because I feel like others need access to an LDS program that someone has already put together. I was very disappointed to find that "Confessions of a Slacker Mom" had been shut down and decided - well actually I'm sure the Lord guided me- to be the person to bring another one back.
Please don't hesitate to email me with questions, comments, concerns or compliments. Thank you for your time!
